Is Your Body Injury Prone
Is Your Body Injury Prone?
Do You Feel Injury Prone?
Does this sound familiar?... You exercise... after a few weeks or months you have a new pain develop in your body....so you rehab it. Then you return to your regular exercise... a few weeks/months go by until once again a new pain develops....so you go back to rehab....and it continues on like this over and over and over again! Eventually, fed up and frustrated you learn that as soon as you push yourself to certain levels of performance that you typically develop more aches and pains then you started with. So logically you figure you must just be past your prime, that aging is catching up to you, and it's time to opt for activities deemed to carry less impact like; pilates, aquasize, spin, circuits, yoga, etc.
Not only has this cycle affected your regular workout routine, but it also made you feel as if you have to find new hobbies and interests. Recurring injuries are making you feel as if you have to reduce the frequency or stop participating in some of your favourite sports like; tennis, golf, pickleball, and adult rec leagues like; hockey, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Once again you chalk it up to aging. You figure that its time to hang your jersey up to make room for the up and coming young 20-somethings dropping in for a session of Sunday night rec basketball.
Here's the thing.... aging is the scapegoat answer that the rehab and fitness industry gives you when they can't solve a problem.
The good news is, you aren't past your prime... you don't have to retire your sneakers and rec-league dreams. This reason for the recurring injuries, the constant battle from one nagging pain to the next, is due to dysfunctional gait mechanics. That's how you stand, walk, run, and throw. Some people have gaping obvious asymmetries in their posture and gait patterns that undeniably point to pain. However, others may not necessarily have such obvious asymmetries. That however, does not mean that their muscular system is firing in sequential order or that the asymmetries that they do have are any less problematic. After all, the difference between pain and no pain is only a matter of millimetres. Remember, it was only a tiny, thin, "straw that broke the camels back". So our pain problems are not always the result of the big, gaping, obvious dysfunctions, but rather, the miniscule ones.
To solve joint and muscular problems that are at the level of millimetres takes an extreme amount of precision and that's why the rehab and fitness industry would just rather tell you that all your problems are due to "getting older".
At New Vision Health we use Functional Patterns methods to assess and devise a training plan that targets these millimetre level imbalances in your posture and gait mechanics to precisely change these limiting dysfunctions and get your body back on the path towards regeneration and pain-free-functional ability.
